Screening of “U are The Universe”

13,00

U Are the Universe is a Ukrainian feature film by Pavlo Ostrikov that blends science fiction, dark humour, and emotional depth into a story about loneliness, hope, and human connection. Set in the future, it follows Andriy, a Ukrainian space trucker who seems to be the last human left in the universe after the Earth explodes — until a message from a French woman, Catherine, gives his journey a new direction.

Behind its cosmic setting, the film remains deeply human. It speaks about distance, vulnerability, and the need for connection, turning science fiction into a story of tenderness and emotional survival.

At the same time, the film carries the reality in which it was made. U Are the Universe was developed over the past ten years, during a period marked by war in Ukraine, and completed under the conditions of the full-scale invasion. Today, several members of the film team are serving in the Armed Forces of Ukraine, including lead actor Volodymyr Kravchuk, who watched the premiere from the trenches. This reality gives the film an additional emotional weight: it is not only an accomplished work of cinema, but also a powerful example of Ukrainian culture continuing to create, imagine, and reach audiences in the midst of war.

Following its world premiere at TIFF, the film received major international recognition, including the Golden Octopus and the Silver Méliès in Strasbourg.
